Well like I mentioned earlier, we drove ourselves over to the local TECO office last weekend to get all this passport/resident status/Taiwan law/What the hell is going on thing all sorted out. So here’s how it works. What I quoted was true, if you are a guy born in Taiwan, they (Taiwan government) can ask (force) you to join the military even if you are a U.S. citizen until you are 36. But if you left Taiwan before the age of 15 (or 16, it’s unclear how they calculate) and have never gone back since and have a Green Card, then you can change your Taiwan passport to a special overseas resident status that will allow you to go in and out of the country without any military concerns for 4 months at a time. So yay I just got a call from the office informing me that I am a-okay! So going back to Taiwan we shall! (sometime soon)
The TECO office in Santa Ana is open one Saturday a month, but it’s really just a small library/meeting place.

Afterwards we stopped by the OC farm and flea market, where Jeannie takes her school kids for field trips each year. It was hot!

Then we stopped by the Mitsuwa Japanese Supermarkets for some shopping and food. Lorelai fell in love with a Hello-Kitty jar and wouldn’t let go of it, so we gave up and got it for her. The ramen at the food court was pretty delicious I have to say.

After a whole day of running around, Lorelai was beat!
