Switching to ViaTalk (from Vonage)

by Jack · No Comments

We just finished switching our phone service from Vonage to ViaTalk, and I guess I should’ve done it much sooner.  There wasn’t really anything wrong with Vonage, it’s just that you get more with ViaTalk, for ALOT cheaper.

Vonage charges you $25 for unlimited talk for 1 line, where as ViaTalk has a promotion right now that’s $199 for 2 lines for 2 years!  Let’s just pretend that the 2nd line doesn’t exist, that’s only $8.29 a month for unlimited talk vs. $25!  I would say it’s difficult for anyone to beat that.  When I called Vonage to cancel, the best they could offer me was 2 months free and $19.99 for unlimited afterwards, still way off.

The number porting was a bit of a pain, as it took about 2 weeks to complete.  I just kept my Vonage service active until everything is set with ViaTalk.  The ViaTalk tech support is really impressive also.  When I first setup the phone adapter, I needed some adapter settings.  Called, waited 15 mins, and I mentally prepared myself to deal with some retards first that will make me go through some steps before I could talk to someone knowledgeable.  But I was really pleasantly surprised that the tier 1 support guy who answered the phone knew exactly what to do and everything was done in 5 mins.  Impressive.

Verdict: Me Like!

P.S.: You need fast broadband for VoIP services.
