Ever since I upgraded Wordpress to 2.3, I stopped receiving email notifications of new comments, which I didn’t find out until a good deal later. It was pretty frustrating, but after a bit of searching, I guess I wasn’t the only one having the problem.
If you are having the same problem, here are the 2 places that I checked:
Not Receiving Email Notification of New Comments
$phpmailer->Sender line prevents comment notifications from being received
Well, that didn’t really fix it for me. What I had to do was the following:
1. Create an email account with my host. i.e. wordpress@jacknjeannie.com
2. Install the Wordpress Plugin – Comments Notifier
I guess the 2.3 upgrade broke something, so if you are having the same problem, good luck to you.

Hi Jack,
I like the idea of the plugin but, honestly, I would hope that this ‘bug’ would be fixed in code by the developers.
I’m hoping they can get this fixed in the near future.
Anyways, thanks for the info.

Glad that worked for you. This is more like a work around rather than a fix, and hopefully this will get fixed in the next WordPress update.

Hi! My problems started when I upgraded from 2.3 to 2.3.1. I am not receiving any emails anymore.
I added wordpress@silkenhut.com but that did not help. My temporary workaround was to install the plug-in WP-Mail-SMTP but for now I can only receive comment notifications. My backups and other mails are not getting sent. I also noticed that my comment subscribers are not getting their emails. -_-

Have no idea what the cause of it is. Hopefully they’ll fix it soon. I wonder if this issue is in the WP bug list?

I was tearing my hair out then came across your fix. Why oh why can’t the developers get this working.
Thanks for the help.

I use bluehost. Adding the wordpress@mydomain.com totally worked. Thank you!

I’ve been blogging since 2003, first on Blogger and then with MT, but I am a newbie when it comes to WordPress. I tried everything to get my comment notification to work, but it never worked for my husband’s or my blogs.
I just installed the plugin you reference here, but I’ve not seen any comment notification come through from my test comment post on his blog.
Does the e-mail address have to be wordpress@domain.com? Can it be anything?

Success!! I had no luck using our regular e-mail addresses, both within our domain and with my Gmail address. However, when I created a forwarder with wordpress@domain.com, notification zipped right on through when I logged out and posted a test comment. Yay!
Thank you so much for posting this solution.

Hi,
I was also facing same problem.
I am sure nothing will work until you fix it in your C-panel setting. Its not Wordpress problem but its your domain localhost setting problem. Dont blame Wordpress.
