POI:
We started the day taking the Metro to Notre Dame, of which both Jeannie and I have seen many pictures and read about it, but it was different when we actually got there. The scale of the church was just impressive and awe inspiring. After so many years the church still gives out a sense of power, as it is towering and beautiful outside while giving people a sense of peace and warmth inside. The stained glass windows were beautiful also, and it was definitely Jeannie’s favor place of the trip.
The weather started to get a bit windy after Notre Dame, but we pressed on. We were actually just wondering around the area and I kinda got lost when it started to rain, so we just ran to the closest tall building that we could find, which was the Pantheon, and it turned out to be a pretty cool place. We went on this mini tour where we went to the top of the building by stairs and got to have a good look of the Paris neighborhood and the skyline. And as luck has it, it stopped raining when we were on top so we got to take some pictures too.
Still kinda lost, we started to wonder around again and spotted a McDonalds at a corner. Since we were kinda tired already and needed to use the restroom, which is really hard to come by, we went in and ordered some salads (which is also really hard to come by… since it seems to me that they only eat bread, cheese and meat most of the time). Rested and finished with our “business”, we looked across and there is the Luxembourg Garden.
Luxembourg Garden was a really pleasant place with fresh flowers everywhere and beautiful fountains, which of course, meant lots of pictures for me (and that’s mostly what we did, since there wasn’t really much else happening there). I could definitely see us doing nothing just sitting there and enjoying the relaxed atmosphere, but since we are on a very limited schedule, we went on.
I kinda found my way around the map and we started to walk toward our next destination. But the rain started to get ugly pretty soon after we left the garden, so we tried to walk quickly to St. Sulpice to wait for the rain to stop. By the time we got there the rain was pouring and our feet were hurting like hell, so we ran in seeking shelter. It was a pretty nice church but definitely not as well maintained as Notre Dame, and we found out later on that this is the church that was mentioned in the Da Vinci Code! (that’s kinda cool I guess :))
After the rain stopped, we quickly walked to St. Germain and took a quick look at the church and the neighborhood. We were really tired by then and our legs were about to give out, so we weren’t really “visiting” hard. St. Germain is a really really old church comparing to others and I am sure that there are a lot of history behind it, but I think we spent less then 20 mins there and walked into the Metro stop right next to it to go home (and we still had to walk 15 mins once we get to our stop to go back to our hotel).
